The single most important factor in the installation of a high-efficiency boiler is the quality of the water in the home, a fact that applies to any high-efficiency boiler manufacturer.
Here are the steps to take to ensure a successful high-efficiency boiler installation:
Have the potable water of the house tested:
- If the hardness is 8 grains or below, and the pH is between 7 and 8, the water may be used to fill the system.
- If the pH is out of this range, the fill water will have to be run through a demineralizer or acceptable water will have to be brought in to fill system.
- Water from a salt-based softener is not acceptable.
When replacing an existing boiler:
- Drain and refill the system. For every 30 gallons of boiler water, add 1 aerosol can of Sentinel X-400 System Restorer.
- If you have a flush cart, power-flush the system, drain and refill.
- If you don’t have a flush cart, turn on all system pumps and circulate for 1 week.
- Drain and refill.
When installing a new system:
- Fill and purge the system. For every 30 gallons of boiler water, add 1 quart of Sentinel X-300 System Cleaner.
- If you have a flush cart, power-flush the system, drain and refill.
- If you don’t have a flush cart, turn on all system pumps and circulate for 1 week.
- Drain and refill.
- Always valve off the new boiler. Do not allow the cleaning water to enter the new boiler.
Take note, failure to follow these steps may result in premature failure of the heat exchanger, which is not covered by manufacturer warranty.
